1. One hundred eight patients between the age of 4 and 71 years were allocated randomly into 4 groups and given either topical lidocaine or EMLA cream to the ear canal as follows: group I (n=30), 1 spary of topical lidocaine; group II (n=34), 2 sprays of topical lidocaine; group III (n=23), 1 cc of EMLA cream; and group IV (n=21), 2 cc of EMLA cream.
